hello i was having Maxtor 20 GB HDD. once i used the utility "Fix It" by Ontrack. it has a tool which check the HDD for future failure using S.M.A.R.T scan. when i used that tool it appears that my system hangs so i restart my PC without completing that task. when i restart my Windows 98 does not boot up. i was usiing that tool on Windows 98. i was Two windows at that time then i boot Windows XP .it boots up but very slow. i think that i had a virus so i scan for virus but Norton Antivirus skips that drive i.e drive C: to scan. then again i restart my PC to format it. but at that time the bios gives message that " Primary Hard Disk Fail-Boot Failure". i used that HDD with other Pc of my friend to boot it as a secondary ,slave etc. but all fails. the HDD spins when PC start .i heard that sound. Any one please help me and tell me that wheather my HDD fails permenantly.

Once a hard-drive is diagnosed as failing & shows the symptoms you are getting then there isn't a lot you can do - if it hasn't gone completely yet, it soon will do. Best to replace it now before it goes at a more inconvenient time. "I know that I'm mad - I've always been mad..."
