Hi everybody!...
I have this external hard disk given to me by a friend since, we found out that it was unreadable...
While it is on my hand, i tried to remove the hard disk from the enclosure and try to set it up on a PC and made it a primary master...The PC works fine, but the hard disk is not and it displays a message "Primary Hard Disk Error, Press F1 to resume"...And I done so...The hard disk could still be detected in the BIOS...Is there still a way how to fix the disk. Another thing that I observed, the disk is creating a creaky sound...
I do hope that you could help me...I just wanted to make it fix, because the size is 300GB and that really is very precious and cost a lot...Although, it was not under warranty anymore...
Thank you for any help that you could give...

Download a diagnostic utility from the maker of the hard drive's web site and execute it to have it make it's one or 2 floppies. Boot the computer that has the hard drive connected to it with the bootable floppy, run the diagnostic tests - usually there is a quick and a longer one - run both. If the utility can't access it, or if it does not pass the diagnostics with no physical errors, no bad sectors, and no SMART errors, (errors in the data alone can be fixed), it is not fixable without spending a lot of money on it having a data recovery expert work on it - either the platters on the drive must be transferred to another compatible hard drive, or the logic board on the drive must be replaced with a compatible logic board (but that only works if there is nothing else wrong).

With your description of this HDD's behavior, I suspect that this HDD is beyond repair.

I agree with Badboy. The creaking sound indicates it is gone. Hard drives are NOT repairable by users.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!
