Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, 3.066 GHz / 1535 MB
Hi guys

I want to upgrade my graphics card. Here are the specs:

Model: Advent series
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
CPU/Ram: 3.066 GHz / 1535 MB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 (Microsoft Corporation)
Sound Card: CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device

Which graphics card should I use to replace the current one? I'm more of a gaming person so I prefer a powerful card to play big games like FIFA 09 and COD4.

Do I need to upgrade anything else from my spec? Feedback would be much appreciated.

Thank you very much,

You'll need to provide more specific technical information before anyone can make a suggestion...and the likely reason nobody has responded.

What kind of motherboard is on your system and what kind of video interfact; AGP or PCI and what version?

As stated above, we'd need to know which slot you have available...AGP or standard PCI? We also need to know your power supply specs...make/model/wattage & amperage ratings on the +3.3v, +5v, +12v rails.

The FX5500 is very old & not a huge power consumer. Modern high end AGP gaming cards (assuming you have AGP?) can use quite a bit of power, so having an adequate power supply is extremely important.

if you do (assuming) have a PCI-E slot I would say go get the Nvidia GeForce 8600GT it is really cheap now and still a great card. probably be able to pick one up for $40. upgrading your RAM would help too, you have a decently fast processor and your RAM might be bottlenecking it. a 32bit OS (most common) limits you to 4GB's of RAM max so don't go over that, you are just wasting money. but 3GB's DDR2 would not be much and would boost your pc's performance.
