Hello,

I have a system that I built that includes a Gigabyte GA-7ZX motherboard, Athlon 800 chip, 128 MB RAM, new Maxtor 80 GB HD, Microsoft Wireless Keyboard/Mouse.

My computer was working fine until when I turned it on about 3 days ago, I got nothing. My computer monitor does not recognize the system, the light stays orange instead of coming on and turning green.

I get a single beep on startup, and I can hear my CD-ROM and floppy searching for media in the drives. Then I noticed that when I turned the system on, after about 25-30 seconds my CPU fan would shut off. I know the monitor is good, I switched video cards without fix. Switched HD, still nothing, but CPU fan stays on, heatsink is quite warm to the touch though.

Unplugged keyboard, mouse, CD ROM, floppy, only left monitor/power/HD plugged in, still nothing. Is my motherboard fried, or maybe my chip or maybe both? Any ideas on what else I could try/check would be great. Thanks,

-Dustin

Dustin !!!

Check your power supply unit.

And if you are not getting any video at all check your ram module.

And also switch the thing of at the wall remove the memory module and leave it out for about 15 minutes.

reset your c-mos by the short circuit jumper, or if you dont have one remove the battery for a short time.

See how you go with that. But make sure its switched off at the power point before you attempt this.

Hope that helps

If you get a single beep at power on, that `normally' means the motherboard and CPU are ok. You also normally get error beeps for a RAM or video card problem.
Try disconnecting the hard drive and pulling all the cards except the video card. You don't need the hard dive connected to get a display.

I have disconnected all cards except video card. I've tried swapping in a new video card. Power supply is new, only about 4 months old. As far as I know RAM should be fine, I will try unplugging and letting sit for awhile today, then resetting CMOS. Anything else I could try?
