booted my computer today to find that sound does not function properly. Realising my computer had onboard sound, I installed the nVidia NForce2 drivers (again), but so far no success.
Strange thing is, Winamp is the only program which is able to use the sound, (if I select it from the directsound.dll config menu). This shows the device itself isn't faulty.
Yes, it is enabled in the BIOS.
Yes, I installed the AC97 codec/driver again.
Yes, I installed the official nForce drivers multiple times, but with no success.

Try this: Go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio tab and make sure that the correct audio device is selected.

It sounds like the driver did not get installed without problems. Have you checked the Device Manager?
