I am not sure exactly how to ghost a hard drive...but I have been told several different methods. I have no problem swallowing my pride and having a service store do it for me though. Basically I would like to ghost my hard drive from my laptop into my new desktop hard drive. The only thing is my laptops motherboard is shot so I can't use my cd rom, or turn it on for that matter. Will i still be possible to ghost my hd? Any help is appreciated.

You might be able to. There is going to be quite a difference in hardware between your laptop and desktop but Win9X and ME are pretty forgiving and once you have installed all the drivers on the OS for your new hardware, it should work ok.

One thing your going to need is an adaptor to put the laptop drive in your desktop machine. Belkin has such a device. Look here - http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=33&pcount=&Product_Id=15336

Why do you want to Ghost a Laptop HD to a Desktop? You may run into some problems by doing so. Look at the diference between the hardware in both machines. My advice to you is to install the O/S and all the applications to the Desktop PC, then copy your personal files to the same machine.

i would not do this.... and i ghost routinely. if you happen to succsefully ghost, when you boot your desk top there will be many many hardware configurations that will need to be updated or simply not work. It would take more time to do it the way you suggest than it would to fdisk and install from scratch
