I need to get a geforce3 agp graphics card in order to play a couple of games my son has bought. I have been looking at getting a Asustek GeForce FX 5200 128mb card but not sure if this is upto the job. Could someone explain how to determine if a graphics card has Geforce3 capabilities.

The nVidia Gforce3 is old news. The FX5200 is from nVidia's 5th generation of video cards, but it's the lowest from the series & is not considered to be a very good card. The latest & greatest from nVidia are from the 6th (6200, 6600, 6800, etc) & 7th generation (7600, 7800, etc).
If you're looking for a budget AGP card with decent performance (definitely better than the GF3 or FX5200), consider this Radeon 9550 256MB AGP card for $39 after rebate:
