|If you are the owner then one of two things:|
1- Try a blank password and see if it will allow you to continue.
2- Your 'new' laptop might have happened to have a very brief owner prior to you. This could be if it was an 'Open Box' or 'Refurbished' laptop. Since you have the receipt, contact HP Tech Support on the phone (not email, etc.) and be prepared to prove ownership since just about only HP could get you into there if there is a BIOS level password.
You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
