hi i have a dell diminsion 4550, which is very good but it came with the rubbish ati rage 128 pro. i am thinking of upgrading to an nvidia geforce fx 5200 agp 8x. is this a good buy?? will it work/ fit in?
The card will work at the bus speed you have up to AGP 8X.It looks like your computer was downgraded by the seller. You should have gotten a Radeon type card.Read: http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,110181,00.asp The cost for a FX-5200 is low for a card very well suited to Win XP, DirectX 9 and high screen resolutions. The CD is easy to use to configure the card.Browse the CD to find all you need to setup the card even DirectX 9 and some dll's the setup is looking for.We have the MSI FX-5200 and find that hardware acceleration is a lot better than having to use the Microsoft 3D sofware acceleration(Direct Draw)when you play gamesIf cost is an issue ,it is a good buy.You can visit MSI and Nvidia websites for updates but the drivers you get on the CD should be enough.Good luck.
what does bus speed mean? does this mean that the graphics wont be as good as a motherboard with agp 8x?? if so, how much worse? thanks for your help :)
