i bought a geforce 9800 gtx and installed it. had to buy a new ps and upgrade from a 450w that i had. now i have 680w. i only plugged in one of the two 6pin pcie power connectors to the video card to test it and it worked. although it worked it played all games VERY slowly. like it would play black and white 2 at 800X600 at low settings just at about 20 fps. is this because of the lack of the 1 pcie connector. if so i need to order an adapter. if not i am rmaing my video card and getting the 4850!

"is this because of the lack of the 1 pcie connector."
You betcha!

ok i ordered a required molex to pcie adapter should be here tomorrow
everyone said that the hd 4850 is better but i heard from a lot of people that it runs hot and loud. i do not like ati i think i bought a good choice as the 9800 gtx is about the 4th best card from nvidia
gtx280
gtx260
gx2
and then the GTX 9800

According to this, the 4850 runs a bit quieter than the 9800GTX, although both are very quiet cards. The 9800GTX does run quite a bit cooler, though.
"the 9800 gtx is about the 4th best card from nvidia"
More like 5th. The 8800 Ultra is faster than the 9800GTX, especially at high resolutions.

also though my psu is a 630w and it has +12v at 22a but it said something about my card requiring +12 at 24a would this make a dramastic difference? and could i overclock a psu? (if its recomended)

That PSU is severely underpowered. You need at least 32A on the +12v rail(s) to power a card with 2 PEG power connectors.
"and could i overclock a psu?"
Now look what you've done. There's green tea all over my computer screen. :P

ha ha ok, well i was just going by what the site said. it said 12v at 24a and only a 450w required psu

If you knew the 9800GTX required two 6pin PCIe plugs, why did you order a PSU that only has one? I just had a look at Newegg & just about every 680W unit they offer has at least two PCIe plugs except for a couple of the el cheapo models. What brand PSU did you get?

i got it from geeks.com and the reason i wasn't looking at the pcie connectors is because tigerdirect said the 9800gtx would come with y cables (molex to pcie) and it didn't so the only reason i ordered a new psu is cuz i needed more wattage. i only had 450 and i went to 680. my question is . will that 2a on my 12v matter. i mean obviously my video card still works with one pcie and the 22a on my 12v rail so idk how it would make a difference on that 2a

cuz if that 2a dramastically makes a difference in my gaming then im not ordering another psu and going through so much hassle. i am just going to rma the 9800gtx and get the hd 4850 which requires only 1 pcie connector but i would like to keep the geforce as it runs cooler and has double socket ventilation so the hot air blows out. anyways the 2a that i need on my 12v do i REALLY need it or will i be fine?

A decent quality 680W PSU sells for about $100. Geeks sells mostly low end cheapo units. Are you really gonna risk your $200 video card on a $25 PSU? I just had a look at Geeks & narrowed it down to these two units...they're both garbage. The specs are horrible & are totally inadequate for your system:
A-Power Pure Black 680W - $21.50
You should be getting something like this:
CORSAIR 650W w/single +12v rail @ 52A - $90 (after rebate)
PC Power & Cooling 610W w/single +12v rail @ 49A - $90 (after rebate)
No offense intended, but I really think you should start posting your questions BEFORE buying anything...you're not making very good hardware choices.

um i recall being told from geeks.com if something happened with "cheapo" psu they supply the damage fee.
i have never had trouble with psu and i have always bought the cheaper ones.
so anyways back to my question
2a : will it matter or not

so i am happy with the psu it works fine when plugged in. besides if something happens im going to be getting a new mobo cpu and ram someday soon. i guess ill find out if the 2a really matters otherwise ill just send back the 9800gtx (tigerdirect said they would accept it since it didn't come with required cables) and ill get the hd 4850 which requires only 1 pcie connector and only 450w psu

I couldn't resist. You apparently don't know much about PSUs. I don't wanna rehash stuff that's been discussed on here many times before, but just compare the product descriptions:
A-Power Pure Black 680W SATA Dual Fan ATX Power Supply
CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
PC Power & Cooling S61EPS 610W Continuous @ 40°C EPS12V Power Supply
The A-Power is an ATX PSU. The 24pin main plug, PCIe plug & SATA plugs were added as an afterthought. And because it's an ATX PSU, the amperages are high on the +3.3v & +5v rails while the +12v is relatively low.
The Corsair & PC Power units comply with the latest specs so their amperages are just the opposite...high on the +12v rail, relatively low on the +3.3v & +5v rails.
Bottomline, you bought the wrong type of PSU for your ATX12V compliant system. It *may* work OK for a while, but eventually it will fail & when that happens, it's very possible it will take the board, CPU & video card along with it.

well thats never happened to me before i take good care of my psus and also i said before im buying a new mobo cpu and ram the only thing i would be out is a video card and thats when i would get an ati video card so ya thank you

"well everything is working fine"
For now. When your $22 PSU pops, you'll be kicking yourself for not taking our advice.
