Geforce 8500GT installation

Specs: Windows Vista
Hello. I am seeking some help with installing a Geforce 8500GT 256mb graphics card onto my Biostar MCP6P M2+ motherboard with an Athlon X2 4400 dual core processor. After I insert the graphics card, I turn on the computer and immediately notice that the colors and resolution is messed up. I went ahead and installed the drivers believing that they should solve the problem, but after I restart the messed up colors and resolution persist. I believe that this might be some kind driver conflict or compatibility issue... Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!

Did you uninstall the old drivers 1st?

Did you eneter the BIOS & disable the onboard video? Set the "shared memory" to "none"? Set "Initial display" to PCIe?

The 8500GT isn't a powerhouse but if your power supply is inadequate, it *may* be putting too much of a load on it.

the driver from NVIDIA's site.

You might need a bios update
for the motherboard if there is no standard vga in the display adapter section of the device manager. Install the latest one.

Also in the bios, disable all unused ports like floppy, serial, parallel, com.... etc..
