hello, ive recently purchased the 128mb version of the 6800GT. my goal is to run doom 3 as best i can, however, i didn't realize there was a 256mb of the 6800GT until recently, and now I am thinking about selling it, in favor of it. It costs about $100 more... what am I getting with that extra 128MB? just curious if its worth it, I am assuming it must be to a degree, otherwise people wouldn't buy them?

thanks!

People buy them (128Mb graphic cards) because they are uninformed, you should thank yourself in hindsight for not knowing about their existence.

You can send me the $100, for showing you how not to spend it.

256MB cards are just hype. They generally use RAM with a higher latency & benchtest no better than 128MB cards...in many cases, they're actually slower.

Just as an example, look at the Radeon X600 Pro 128MB vs the 256MB version:
