Help,
I purchased a Gateway laptop last month. BIG MISTAKE 12-11-07. 1) From the very beginning it began to have power issues. It sleeps very seldom, and then when it does sleep and I start it back up I get an error message. 2) The disc drive will start to run (for no reason) and I have to manually turn off the computer to get it to stop. 3) When the fan is running it makes a very labored sound. 4) I have tried system restore, and it refuses to do any of that too. 5) I have tried to run it unlocked (without my sign in) and it refuses to do that to. I could go on and on but hopefully by now you get the idea. Well I decided to look around the computer myself and discovered under Administrative Tools an events logs. Here I found error messages from 6-06 and 8-07. The 06 really threw me because that will be two years in just five months. I went back to where I bought it and was given "Since you didn't buy our insurance, you'll have to deal with Gateway. And OH Good Luck." Now my question to is when did Vista go public. Was this harddrive referbed and then put back on the market with vista. What should my approach be with Gateway? Any ideas will really be appreciated. Thank You!!!!!shoredreamer

You have to contact Gateway. You may find they will be able to help you better than we can.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

I also agree with Jefro. Curious, did you actually purchased it directly from this site...

If so, below is what wikipedia explained from this page about the term "Refurbishment":
Computers and laptops that are refurbished usually means that it did not initially pass quality standards of the manufacturer. They then fix or recertify the unit and sell it at a discount price (Up to 30% off). Most of them carry a 30 day store warranty and 90 days with manufacturer.

Refurbished units can also be ones returned by customers. By the way, there are no laws regarding selling of refurbished units. They can be completly rebuilt as good as new, or they can have no work at all done on them before being sold. It's all up the the seller how much effort he wants to put into it.

As I understood "refurbished" items are not allowed to be sold as new.

Dell got slammed for selling refurb's as new. Depends on what you might term new. New is normally not sold to a customer. It may be that it was used internally or even used on a movie set as a prop.
