Gateway NV53 Voice Problems

Specs: Windows 7, AMD Athlon II Dual-Core M300 2.00 Ghz
So I Purchased my Gateway NV 53 not too long ago. I've been very pleased almost everything. I use the laptop for school and a little bit of gaming. I have no trouble with the games I play, it runs it well. However I am not able to use the programs I use to communicate with my friends (Skype, Ventrilo) because my voice sounds extremely loud and distorted to them. I have tried to different mics on this laptop (a logitech and a turtle beach) and also tried both on different computers. They both work flawlessly on different computers. I've tried reading around to find people with similar problems, but I haven't had much luck. I've read through every setting, tried everything i've found etc. I'm not sure what to do anymore, and my only conclusion so far is it may be a sound card issue. Any response would be GREATLY appreciated. thanks

You may need to set the mic volume where you don't normally see it, or lessen or disable a mic boost feature.

See Response 6 in this

starting at

" Make sure you don't have volumes set too low or muted, for things you want to hear or use.... "

(in your case, make sure you don't have volumes set too high)

With a mic plugged in, click on Recording Devices, then double click on the microphone, then click on the Levels tab
