Gateway laptop Keyboard gone insane!

Specs: Vista SP1
I have a Gateway laptop (about 1 year old with Vista) with and my keyboard has gone into some sort of odd mode where pressing keys either lead to opening a Vista shortcut or types the wrong letter. For example, whenever I hit the 'D' key it shows the Desktop, the 'H' key displays Help and 'R' opens the Run dialog. Other keys such as backspace type a dash and the space bar types the "3 W", all the keys simply type the wrong letter. Ive tried turning on and off numlock, capslock, scroll-lock,etc. to no avail. I do not think the computer is stuck into some sort of different Vista keyboard configuration, instead it seems it is a hardware related issue. Thus far I've done a full virus/spyware scan, have created a new different user account where it does the same thing, and used System Restore to go back to settings from a week ago. I've also uninstalled and re-installed the basic Vista keyboard driver. For a few days, an external usb keyboard and the On-screen keyboard worked fine but now out of nowhere it does the same thing with defaulting to shortcuts and displaying the wrong characters. The only other possible think I could think of is whether or not it is a bios-related issue? Thanks for your time!

It sounds like one of the windows keys is stuck on. That's the keys with the Windows flag. Try tapping on them to see if you can break it loose.

i remember that happening to me on win 98 lol. A friend of mine had it happen to them recently, and she told me it turned out to be a virus. Maybe try a different scanner. Avast has never let me down.
