Gateway laptop Keyboard Config Off?

Hey everyone,
My Gateway laptop has gone nuts. Every time I hit a key, it types multiple other keys surrounding it- For example, the letter 'E' types '4es5', 'P' types '8*+' and regularly used keys like backspace type a '\' or line.

I've already tried the following:
-Uninstalling and reinstalling vista keyboard driver
-Made sure layout is set to U.S. standard layout
-Restored all BIOS default settings
-Hit various combinations of keys suggested on other forums, like FN + Scroll Lock, FN + NumLock, Control and Alt with the keylocks.

It appears the problem is hardware related because it does the same thing when I boot to DOS or type in a live linux distro. An external USB keyboard works fine but obviously I don't want to have to lug that around with a laptop.

Thanks for any suggestions! I'm baffled..

I'd try tilting the laptop up vertically and spraying compressed air under the keys to try to dislodge any debris underneath it. Don't spare the air, get it nice & clean.

If that doesn't work, try removing the keyboard and reseating the connection per the documentation here on Pg. 7-8:

If that doesn't work, it could be a hardware issue, but I have also seen Trojan viruses do that to keyboards. Make sure your system Anti-Virus is up to date. And you may want to scan with other Anti-Malware tools like MalwareBytes, SpyBot Search & Destroy and A-Squared Free.

Just another stupid saying...
