Hi, I have an old Gateway 450sx4 laptop that just started having display issues. The screen flickers and has pixelated lines, etc. across it. It only seems to occur if I move the laptop at all...but sometimes can happen on its own. I tried connecting an external display but the problems also occur there too. It also occurs during the bios and doesnt seem to be related to drivers or anything like that. I assume there is some connection loose either on the video card or somewhere else.
Can someone maybe help me pinpoint the problem? Is it just a connection? Or could it be a problem with the entire video card itself? Is it possible that I may need to replace the mobo? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also unluckily this happened an hour before I'm leaving for Prague so I'll have to deal with it while I'm there. Hopefully I can find a repair shop!
Video on that laptop is most likely an integrated graphic chip. It is common for the cable from the base to the screen to get breaks in it on any laptop. perhaps that is your problem. Below is a link to the gateway site for your laptop. The specs are also there.
