Hi,

I recently acquired a used Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop. It's in fairly good condition, but when you tilt the display back far enough, the display becomes horribly garbled, as shown in the image.

The problem doesn't make the laptop unusable, but it is somewhat of an inconvenience not being able to tilt it back as far as I'd like to. Any ideas?

Thank you!

Sorry there was no image. You can blame Computing.net for that one. Here are two image links:

After a laptop has been used (opened and closed) a lot, it's common for the wiring between the base and the display in the lid to become damaged, often right where it passes through the hinge - the display may be ok when the lid is in certain positions, not okay in other positions.
That is a frequently replaced item, and relatively inexpensive to replace.
If you contact a local place that is authorized to repair Dell laptops, they probably know which part you need, and can order it if they don't have it in stock.
Meanwhile, avoid using it when the lid is in a position that produces a garbled display, or just don't open and close it whenever you can, to avoid possibly damaging the video circuits.
