I am thinking of buying myself a gaming rig and wanted to ask what you think. I also want to overclock it a bit with stock heatsinks and fans as much as possible.

Cpu - Amd Athlon 3500+ 64bit s939 or AM2

Motherboard - Asus A8N5x s939 or AM2

GraphiX - x1900xtx Pcie

Ram - 2x512 dual channel TwinX Corsair DDR
or DDR2 if AM2

And does the psu really matter or should i take a low cost psu with a high wattage and is dual channelling the memory really better.

Thanks,
Shadow

The PSU DEFINITELY matters! Why would you risk all your high end parts on a cheap PSU? If it pops, it's bound to take out some components along with it. Wattage isn't quite as important as amperage. Plan on spending at least $50 for a PSU that complies with the new ATX12V 2.x standard. It should have a 20+4-pin main connector, dual +12v rails (18A each if possible), & preferrably one huge cooling fan on the underside.

And yes, dual channel mode is better for the A64 system.

I just read some articles but does the AM2 version of the Athlon 3500 overclock better than the s939 and does AM2 run cooler?

Thanks

You may want to visit the allieenware web site ,they sell high end gaming systems and see how much info you can find out about what hardware they use ! Perhaps it will provide you a guide line as to what hareware works well togethter ,also Northgate is another PC company that builds high end systems !
Good Luck Nick
