Fujitsu Biblo LifeBook

OS: Windows2000
CPU/Ram: Intel celeron 64MBytes
Model/Manufacturer: FMV-6333-NU4/Y
Comment:
I bought this notebook recently as I needed something quick to replace my desktop wqhich had to be returned to the manufacturer for a motherboard failure.

Anyway, I found out this model was only made for the Japanese market, hence I cannot find any manuals on the internet unles I learn to read Japanese, in which case I may find it in Fujitsu's Japanese website. I am mainly having problems with the mats---a DVD/CD-RW inside it, it will not read DVDs, I cannot find the driver for it anywhere, not even on the other driver forums. The reason I also want a manual (in English) is to find out where the memory banks reside so I can upgrade the RAM.
Yes, I had managed for a while to run Windows XP on a 20 GByte HD with only 64 MBytes of RAM. However, it is a little slow.

I assume you mean video dvd's not data dvd's.

Two issues I'd suspect. Either the dvd region or an application is needed to read dvds. Try VLC portable first to see. Might have to change the dvd region.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

I think jefro is right, sounds like a region problem.

Afraid not, no diagram underneath, only access panels are for the HD, Floppy drive battery, DVD/CD-RW slides out, and a fan. This model was made for the Japanese market only, no info on any of the English language fujitsu sites including Fujitsy-Siemens. It does not even read Data DVDs, I have got a bootable linux DVD but it will not boot any DVD which is bootable, but happily boots up bootable CDs. Yet, under properties in the hardware listing it is mentioned to be a Mats---a UJDA330 DVD/CD-RW or DVD combo. Perhaps I better ditch this thing and settle for a second hand Fujitsu or other model which does have support on English language websites. Like the S series for instance.

You have to understand life in Japan to understand your issue. For years they made a Japan only systems. A very closed country. I am suprised it is a romaji keyboard even. When they say Japan market only you now know what they mean.

Sell it on your auction site.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

i have a newer version of a fujitsu laptop and had no problem getting the manual for it straight from fujitsu
is it possible that the older version might not be supported by them any more?

The main problem is that it is one for the Japanese market only, and any service can only been done there. Unless I decide to teach TEFL in Japan, there is no way I will ever get its full potential out of it. However, I have managed to install Zenwalk linux on this notebook. I did have windows XP run on it for a short time, with only 64MBytes of RAM it is not a bad thing.
Anyway, it is giving me too many problems due to the lack of HW support outside Japan, so I will swap it for an IBM R31 which has got lots of support online and via IBM/Lenovo websites.
