Hi Guys,

Could somebody please advise me on the "correct" jumper setting for my FSB on an Asus A7N8X mobo.
It is version 2 and supports 400 / 333 / 266 / 200 MHz straight out of the box.
The default jumper setting is 333/266.
Should I leave it at that that or change it to 200 (there doesn't seem to be a 400 setting.

Thanks.

Ok

Well according to ASUS, the settings are, leave it at default 333/266 if you want to support the newer Athlon XP's or set it to 200mhz fsb of you have an original, older Athlon (the Athlons orginally ran on 200mhz fsb).

I guess it self selects between 266 or 333 dependant on whether or not you are running the brand new Athlons on 333 or the regular Xp's.

Thanks for the quick responses.

Forgot to mention that the spec for the new Athlon 3200+ is 400MHz FSB.
As there is no option on the board for 400 (but Asus claim it supports it) do you think I should just set the 266/333 setting?

I would assume you leave it on the 333/266 as it is self selecting.

Then boot up and see what you get. You probably get options in the bios to specify the 400 speed.

wait that link won't help you.

Set it at 266/333 then adjust the bios upwards to 400 in order to run your 3200+. If your board is less than a revision 2.0 pcb you will need some luck since 400fsb is not guaranteed. pcb 2.0 with latest bios will auto-detect the 3200+ and set it to 400 automatically. The manual for pcb 2.0 boards has renamed the "333/266" jumper setting to be "400/333/266". But no matter what pcb your board is, you will hopefully be able to set the fsb at 400 in bios and have it run like it's supposed to. Download the latest a7n8x manual and you'll see what I mean.

It worked.
I had it good to go, but didn't want to power it up before I cheked.

Auto-detect came back with the 3200+.

Many thanks for the advice, and the amazing speed with which you replied.
