Hello, I have seen a few posts about this but nothing I've tried has worked. i have a desktop that is "frozen" and states "windows is starting up..." but does nothing else. mouse does move but does nothing. i have tried to use F8 to reboot and other commands (safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, reboot, and more... from the screen that comes up from pressing F8) and they all take me straight to the "frozen" windows welcome screen. I read somewhere (so many posts not sure where i saw this) that I could try turning on the system with my disc in the tower. any thoughts on this or other ideas. prior to this i didn't have any probs, but it memory is quite full hadn't gotten around to buying extra for it. in the meantime, the desktop is completely unusable. family members use the system and they swear they didn't download anything or upload new anything. i guess i believe them, but strange how nothing happens like this when I use it, lol. HELP please if you can...

Hi :) well, I took it to my local computer shop. they saved the data on my pc and reloaded windows back onto it. i had considered reloading windows myself but i would have lost all of my data. its running faster than ever because for $20 I had them add another byte of ram, so I'm pretty pleased. Good luck with yours.

I have had this problem for a lonf time until I spoke to a local computer shop owner.
The simple solution was to replace the harddrive. I used Acronis True Image to clone the C drive. Everything works fine now.
