Front Panel LED MB connections

I recently put an ASUS Socket 370 TUV4X MB into an old Gateway G6-350 case, im having trouble figuring out the front panel LED connections. The case has a power LED (Green/Orange/black wires)a power switch (Blue/white wires), which i have that connected correctly and a HD LED (red/black wires). On the motherboard it has power LED: PLED+ PLED-. Message LED: MLED+ MLED-. I figured these connections would be for the Power LED and HD LED. When i looked at the old Gateway MB manual to figure out what wire was what it said that; Red:HD_PWR Black:HDActive#. Green:HDR_BLNK_ GRN+BLNK_ Orange:HDR_BLNK YLW_BLNK Black:GND. Also on the MB there are 3 unused pins next to the powerLED pins that are labled IDE LED but in the manual it has nothing being connected to these pins. I was thinking that these three pins are where the HD LED is connected, but i have no way of knowing which pin is what, i guess i can just try different configurations till i get one right. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are your system wires labeled? For example, PWR, IDE LED, RESET SW, etc. If so, I've found that the wires usually all face the same direction when plugging them into the system board, if you know which way a given set is already facing in a row then that would be the same way for the rest of the wires on that row. Example, IDE LED is facing down, all other wires face down. You should use the IDE LED for your hard drive, I've never experienced the MLED- or MLED+.

The wires arent labeled and all the wires were connected with one connector so i had to take the wires out of the connector and wrapped electrical tape around the ends and connected them individually. I tried connecting the HD LED wires to the IDE LED but no light ever came on, i tried each possible configuration. Also the power LED stays on constantly, even when i shut the computer down. The motherboard has an onboard LED that is always on until i unplug the power cable, i imagine this is why the power LED on the case is always on.
