Hi a friend is building a pc and i just wanted to run the spec past you to see what you thought, he mainly needs it for programming, a bit of gaming and learning sharepoint, also he will be using Windows 2003 Server. Thanks,

Even if the CPU is overclocked to the extreme, there's no chance of it running at 533MHz Freq (2133MHz FSB) to match PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066). So if you were to get PC2-8500, it would have to be underclocked. If the CPU is run at the default FSB speed of 1333MHz, the RAM *should* be run as DDR2-667.

(edited) ok confused now lol
i couldnt remember why i thought id seen E8400 at 1066 till i went past the local shop
but their spec is (ok not E8400) but an E8500 on a asus p5kc mobo with ddr3 1066 ram so there saying it does work
its a full hit gamer pc ati 3870x2 fancy case etc etc

so i take it they are running mem/cpu async?

Have no idea. I do know that DDR3 RAM & boards that support it are a waste of money at this time. DDR3 currently has no advantage over DDR2, plus it costs more.
