Does anyone know where I can get a free partition resize program that works with NTFS? I don't need it to do anything other than that - just shrink NTFS.

Uh... how do you download that? I see a bunch of .rpm, .gz, .deb... I'm afraid I have never heard of that. How do I use it?

Let's read the first paragraph of the page.

..."there are many ways to get it run for example by booting one of the many Linux Live CD's (they run off the CD, not hard disk)."

"Several softwares, like Mandrake's DiskDrake and Vanni Brutto's QTParted, integrated ntfsresize a very easy and safe to use way."

The News section goes on to list, in blue highlighted links, some additional places to find ntfsresize. Including Trinity Rescue Kit, SystemRescueCD, and Knoppix.

Firstly, if you want to resize NTFS in Windows, go buy PartitionMagic or something similar. If you want to have a free resizing program, you should get a Linux distribution which boots and runs off a CD-ROM (no installation - the entire OS stores itself in RAM for temporary use). These Linux distributions contain programs for resizing NTFS, specifically the program ntfsresize. Knoppix is fairly friendly and you might try downloading the ISO, burning the image to a CD-R, and booting with that. SystemRestoreCD is the next best thing for you. On each website for the respective distribution, there are howto's.
