format hard drive error

OS: win2k sp4
CPU/Ram: athlon 2.4/ 1GB Ram
Comment:

When tring to format a partitioned drive I get the following error.
"The format failed to complete successfully"
Any ideas where I go next, cause at the moment I have an 80Gb drive that is only using 30GB.
Help please

You might want to clarify exactly what you are doing. For example you say you have a 80gig drive but only 30gig is used. What drive letters do you have? c: and d:? or only c:? When you try to format exactly how and what are you formatting? What does disk manager say?
