Hi there.
I have a Sony Vaio VGC-RC204 media center desktop with an nvidia 7600t card, outputting VGA to a Sony KDL-20s2020 LCD monitor.
The problem is, recently I've started playing older games (here I'm specifically talking about Need for Speed 4: High Stakes) which the menu runs in (I believe) 640x480, so whenever I open the game the screen goes blank and says that it cannot display this mode.
It is not possible to change the resolution the menu runs at so I'm stuck with two options:
- Either finding a way to stop the resolutions from filling the screen and running them in their proper letterboxes (which I deem the ideal solution). However, is it possible to do this? nVidia detects my monitor as a CRT and therefore the scaling option is not available. All I want to do is to stop the driver from forcing the resolution to fill the screen.
- Running a game in a window, which I think would be even harder to do...

All help is much appreciated.
JC

Or i guess more simply, is there a way to force 640x480 to letterbox rather than fill the whole screen?

did your LCD come with a driver CD? does Sony's website offer one for download? does your card have a DVI output? if your system sees your LCD as a CRT, or as a "generic plug and play monitor," it might not be as adept at switching resolutions or letting applications control the resolution as if it knew it was outputting to a specific LCD.
