Floppy Not Working

My floppy has started acting up. I have a data file that I backup to floppy and it takes 2 disks. All at once, it will run and backup the first floppy, but with the 2nd one I get this error: "Unable to access the specified drive. Retry?" Retry just gives the same error. Replaced the drive with a new one and I get the same message. It won't even work to format a diskette. Error there: "Windows was unable to complete the format".
I can keep putting the 1st disk in and it keeps saying that it is backing the data up!

The 2nd disk is obviously faulty if a drive replacement didnt solve the problem.

The floppy disk is quite easy to crash. In addition, the floppy drive is also bad. I often have a situation when the floppy drive does not work today, but in the next couple days, it works again. It is just the dam technology.

Have you tried fully reformatting both floppy discs before backing up, or using new ones?
If the read/write heads are slightly out of alignement in the formatting drive the disc can occasionally fail (reading or writing) when used on another drive.
Good Luck - Keep us posted.

Thanks everyone.
I tried the disks this morning in the new drive, after I reformatted them on another machine and they worked okay. I then reformatted them on this machine and it worked, so I can only surmise that it was a bad day! <G>
Thanks again!

When backing up, it pays to use more than one set of output media.
For example, at least three sets, or if daily, five - one for each day of the working week.
