My old Dell's floppy drive's not recognising floppies. It keeps telling me I have to format the disks, but the disks are ok.

Any clues on how to fix this?

thanks

I'd say that your dive went bad. I had the same thing happen and it drove me nuts. When I replaced the drive the problem went away. Go to Newegg.com they have a Sony floppy drive for $12 and it gets delivered to your house. That's what I have and not a problem yet.

Make sure you get a floppy that will fit the custom Dell cases/faceplates.

Just in case! Make sure that the floppy is set up correctly in the bios.

Did you look in the front of the drive to see if there is any dust build up. If there are any visible dust bunnies then any floppy disk will show up as unformatted. The drive will not be able to read the disk and most likely any floppies inserted will be damaged and no longer work.
