My floppy disk drive is unable to read or write to floppy disks. Under windows I get the disk is not formatted error (and it is unable to format the disk if I try). In ms-dos I get an invalid media type error. In safe mode the drive is not accesible. Even scandisk is unable to check drive A; because of the disk is not formatted crap. The disks I have tried are all preformated 3 1\2 inch floppies. I have tried different brands. The cables seem to be fastened tightly and the floppy led comes on. There are no conflicts and the driver is working properly. Does anyone know whats causing this?

It could simply be that the drive is bad. For example the heads could be misaligned, but it's likely less expensive to replace than repair. Best Wishes, Bob

Steps I would try:- 1) if applicable, check that the drive is properly enabled and/or setup in the bios 2) see what, if anything, the led does when attempting to access 3) try disconnecting and reconnecting both ends of the interface cable. 4) borrow another good drive to try 5) borry another good interface cable to try 6) Suicide!
