I have an older Dell laptop which does not have boot from CD as a BIOS option. I want to install LINUX from a CD. How can I make this laptop boot from CD? Can I make a floppie which will direct the boot to the CD?

If you do not have a boot from CD option there is nothing you can do about it. The BOOT option is all done from BIOS. By the time you are reading the floppy, the BIOS boot process is finished and you cannot go back to it without a reset.
You could contact Dell and see if they have a BIOS update that will allow you to boot from CD. The only other alternative is to contruct a Linux boot disk on a floppy and then direct the install to the CD.
The Linux people should be able to tell you how to do this. There is almost certain to be something on the Linux CD to allow you to do this.
