I hope that someone can help me with this problem. I recently purchased a ILO (L15FCBT) 15-inch Flat-Panel LCD Monitor With DVI from Wal-Mart. I’m sure it’s not the best monitor out there, but I do not need the best b/c I use my system for surfing the net, work, organizing photos, burning dvd’s, etc. No gaming or anything like that.
My problem is that the screen will flash from what’s on the screen to a solid black screen and then back to the original website, picture, etc. I’ve noticed that it does this much more frequently when there are a lot of graphics, video or pictures on the website/screen. I DID NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH THE ORIGINAL MONITOR THAT CAME WITH THE SYSTEM... HP M70 17-inch .
Features of the ILO Technologies Flat Screen:
• Incorporates TFT (Thin Film Transfer) technology, recognized as producing some of the sharpest images possible
• Displays up to 16.7 million colors
• 1280 x 1024 resolution at 75 Hz (maximum)
• High contrast ratio of 400:1
• High brightness at 250 cd/m2
• DVI digital input support
• Built-in speakers
• 170-degree viewing angle
• 1 analog and 1 digital input
• Audio in jack
My computer system…HP Pavilion PC Model XE745
Intel (R) Celeron (TM) 733 MHz processor
320 MB SDRAM (But will be upgrading to 512 this weekend)
Windows XP Home Ed.
80 GB Hard drive
Video Graphics - PCI Interface
Controller - Intel 810
Video Memory - 11 MB shared system memory, integrated graphics, not upgradeable
Resolutions: Video resolutions dependent upon specific display used - 640 x 480: 16/256/32 K/64K/16.7M colors 800 x 600: 16/256/32K/64K colors 1024 x 768: 16/256/32K/64K colors 1280 x 1024: 256 colors
Could it be the Graphics or lack there of enough Graphic memory?Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
THANKS...Tom

"Could it be the Graphics or lack there of enough Graphic memory?"
It really could be because you are utilizing a low power Celeron Cpu with little cache of it's own, that is being drawn by the onboard video card as well. I would bet if you put in a P III and even a 64 meg AGP video card if you can (using agp or pci slot) this would all go away.
I see this allot with "white out" in Celeron notebooks when you do graphics at all. Graphics and games are the one place Celerons really fall down.
You know you can buy an 866 or 900 PIII on eBay for $20-25 and the video card I would bet is less than the ram you are adding that at this point will do nothing for the problem.

I do not believe I have the ability to upgrade the Processor or graphics on this system. In regards to the processor, according to the information I found on HP.com, it states the Maximum HP supported replacement: Intel Celeron 733 MHz.
Under Video it states... 11 MB shared system memory, integrated graphics, not upgradeable. Video Graphics = PCI Interface.
Please keep in mind I'm not an expert, but I have done some upgrading, etc. What about getting a new motherboard with a better processor and graphic card? Would I be able to use the same memory sticks I have in my system?
Thanks!!!

I would suggest before you do anything else, test the monitor on another system and see if the problem exists there too. It is possible the problem is the monitor itself.
I've seen plenty of cheaper computers with LCD's that work just fine.

I thought about that in the past, but haven't done it. However, I will tonight! Thanks for the reminder.

If the monitor is in good working order on another PC then I would suggest using 1024 x 768: 16/256/32K/64K for your resolution setting. (or 800x600 if that is acceptable)
It does seem odd to me that it specifies onboard graphics but shows the PCI interface.
Your memory is fine.
You may want to think about a 64MB PCI video card that you might find as reasonable upgrade. All of the above assumes that you have installed the new monitor's correct drivers; right?
Bryan

There were a very few Intel mb's with 810 chisets that were only for Celeron, I forgot that, but it would be unusual anyway.
Yes as Bryan suggests a pci video card would be a solution also.
Forgget the idea of new mb and cpu, most likely the proprietary plug to the motherboard from the power switch will stop you cold, and you don't want to buy from HP, the price would be astronomical.
