I've had a problem with this PC regarding a huge boot up time. I couldn't get hold of the manufacturer so had to try and fix it myself - via help on this forum.

I finally tried a BIOS update and that seems to have fixed it. Typically, the day after I tried that after nearly two weeks of silence the manufacturer has got back in touch to arrange a return and refund for next Tuesday.

First question to BIOS experts - does updating the BIOS have the potential to stop huge boot-up delays or is it entirely co-incidental therefore the problem could return at any time?

And second question generally: Given the PC is working (if a touch noisy but I can do something about that), would you return it given the shabby service so far and the fact that its been giving problems? Or would you take the approach that if its working keep it and forget about it as getting and setting up another PC is a pain in the bum.

Assuming that the manufacturer is willing to replace it and you have had problems. They don't go out of their way to replace computers.I would exchange it.

Since you really didn't describe your "boot-up delays" the best answer anyone could give you is "maybe". A BIOS flash in a new computer built by a manufacturer that is still under warranty for "boot-up delays" is not a choice I would make.

"Given the PC is working (if a touch noisy but I can do something about that), would you return it"

For me, that would depend on how much I had "personalized" it by installing software etc. If I could easily do this with a new computer, I'd take the replacement, but then only if it were a new one and not a "refurbished" model.

I would start over. The question is will they let you?

You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users
