I plan to get a flash card reader and have a couple questions. One, how are the internal units interfaced to the USB, are they piggy backed? Two, what are some of the more reliable brands? There are several on Newegg that I was looking at.
External would be easier I know, but its also one more thing getting in the way when not used. ;) Thanks.

You could read all the reviews from users on the units offered and see which one has the higher precentage of an "excellent rating" as a guide. As for the interfaced question, click on the Manufacture Page for each unit and contact each respective manufacture and inquire about it.

The internal drives typically attach to an available USB header on the motherboard. If all your headers are already attached to USB ports then you would need to disconnect one (most mobos these days have more USB headers than anyone would really use).
Reliable brands? They are all pretty much the same, plus they are dirt cheap.
