BIOS is stored on a chips often referred to as Flash memory: which can also be called EPROM, electronically programmable read only memory. That is to say once data is written into it, that data is retained without the need for any electric current and cannot be overwritten without special programs.
Thus to 'Flash' BIOS means to reprogram or update the existing program.

I would not recomend you try this unless you really know what your doing .If there is any interuption during the flashing process , your PC may become unbootable. Attempting to flash your BIOS if you are on a dial up can be really risky. I would do as much reading on the pro and cons of BIOS flashing B/4 you go foward with any Flashing of the BIOS ! IMHO,Nick

I flashed my KT3 Ultra 2 Raid mobo to make it support Athlon XP 2400+ AND 2600+ even though I am currently using Athlon XP 2100+
Mean you are going to have to update the bios sometime or later to support new CPU, memory ect,
When I did it MSI give me a boot disk, but I was scared about flashing the bios incase i loose power but worked out ok
but like Nick Ritchie any interuption, power cut,PSU fails then basically your motherboard is dead
Only flash if you really need to, I only did it as I like to be up to date
Goodluck
