Hi

I have an Ambient 56k External modem connected to my Dell Latitude-CPt laptop, & have a couple of problems.

1, nearly every time i try & connect it tells me that there is a hardware failure, & i have to switch the modem off then on again, then it seems to work, i have looked for upgraded drivers but dont seem to be able to find any, windows 2000 doesnt seem to acknowledge that such a modem exists.

2, having managed to get connected to my isp, (wanadoo in France) it then promptly throws me off line in the time it takes for me to access my mail, either through hotmail directly, or through MS Outlook.

3, I am using this external modem on the serial port,(Com 1)because my PCMCIa Modem card has a broken cable, but every now & then my system tells me that the external modem has been unsafely ejected from the system, as if it was in a PCMCIA slot? & i have to uninstall it & reinstall it all over again, its driving me crazy.

if anyone has any idea at all what is happening on any of these 3 questions i would be pleased to have your input.

Cheers & Regards in adance

You definitely need the correct driver for the correct OS. If you can't find a Win2K driver for that modem, you will have to replace it.

I have noticed with external serial modems and windows xp it works almost every time when I connect and turn on modem before I start the computer. Mabey it is the same for win 2k.

Also mabey you need to "if you didn't" uninstall the pcmcia modem drivers.

You can also may find a driver at driverguide.com that will work for your modem.
