slow and sluggish start up and the same in shut down.laptop takes ages to start up and ages to shut down
What do you consider ages? Do you see any messages when starting or shutting down?
How much memory do you have installed?
In addition to the above questions:
Have you ever uninstalled the original bloatware that was shipped on the laptop?
Have you ever selectively removed most programs from starting with Windows?
What antivirus program do you have installed? Other added utilities?You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Suggest taking a look at easycleaner which his free.
One of its facilities is listing programs that load on starting up, and removal of such.
