Hello,

I am about to install new memory (for the first time ever), but have a serious lack of documentation to guide me in the process.

From what I read, it doesn't sound difficult if everything goes to plan.

However, I have also read that when the PC is rebooted with the new memory in place, I may be prompted to update BIOS. I'm afraid to say I only have a very basic idea of what that means.

The problem is made worse with the fact that I cannot find a manual for the motherboard anywhere. Not in any memory selector, or even the MSI website (it's a MS-7048 in an Advent T9 machine by the way). So looking for BIOS updates would be understandably difficult?

I'm only looking to make sure I install the new memory in the correct places. There are two banks available, with the existing pair occupying the A1 and A3 banks (according to a system checker I downloaded). In anyone's far-more-expert opinion, and without having looked inside obviously, would you guess that the new pair of modules can be fitted into A0 and A2, with everything running dual-channel as a result?

Thanks for any help in advance - and sorry for the essay, but I'm quite frustrated at not being able to find clear guidance!

Go to www.crucial.com to check your memory. There are a number of ways to check it, via Mobo / manufacturer etc. Good Luck

Thanks GH, however that's been tried and there's no trace of my model or mobo there either.

Take a look here:

http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/pc/t9.htm

There's a link on the page to crucial that will scan your system for the correct memory.

You shouldn't need to update the BIOS to simply install additional RAM. Try what Skip said to do.

Yep, that's why is considered the easiest thing to upgrade in a pc, u don't have to do anything but find the correct ram for pc and then just snap it in.
