I began my first build today and of course i have hit my first bump in the road. I installed an ASUS P4P800S MoBo w/ intel 848 chipset,a 2.8ghz p4 prescott, and 512mb Kingston RAM (which is noted in the MOBO book as being tested and reliable with that MOBO). I dont have my vid card yet, but i figured i'd see if the board would power up. I wired everything according to the diagram in the MB booklet and then hooked the ATX and 12v connectors to my MB. When i turn on the power to the powersupply the Standby LED turns on on the board, but when i hit the power button on the front panel no fans start to spin or anything. Is this a simple problem or am i screwed??? Sorry this is my first build and im freaking out a bit.

Did you connect the tower connectors to the motherboard? If you didn't the power switch does nothing.

What are these tower connectors that you are talking about? I hooked up all of the ATX power and I have the power switch plugged in.

Take a look near the location of the power button on the front of your pc. There should be a few wires there that plug into the motherboard. The power switch on your computer case has to be connected to the motherboard to turn your pc on.

yep all of the wires coming from the front panel are attached to the MB. One of the LED's in the front turns on, but that is it. When i hit the power switch none of the fans spin or anything.

Maybe the power button connector was plugged in the wrong way? I'm pretty sure they can only go in one way so maybe unplug it, rotate it 180 degrees and plug it back in? The last thing you can do it double check your manual and all the connections you have made. If that doesn't work I cant be exactly sure what the problem is :/.

I tried....still nothing. The LED on the board turns on, the LED on the front panel turns on, but the power switch still isnt working. Am I right in thinking that the fans should turn on when i turn on the system?

Hi There, I had the exact same problem a couple of weeks ago. All I did was change the cables around on the pins, I think its just a case of trial and error. Maybe give it a try and let me know how you go.

I did turn the cables around the other way and place them back on the pins and nothing happened.

I recently built a new pc for my grandad including:

AMD duron 1600 (with fan & heatsink)
PC2100 128mb Ram
30gb HDD
PC Chips Mobo

But after installing all the parts and wired up correctly there in no power through anything no lights either. I have tried everything on this page so far but nothing works. When i put the plug in the fan moves very slightly for a split second (it has got grease on) Please could anyone help as these parts cost my grandad a lot and i would appreciate any info so i can eliminate it,

Cheers - Andy
