I have an LG DVD/CDRW combo, i bought it a little less than a year ago but i recently installed firmware and it totally messed up my drive. It doesn't even turn on. Now my friend had the same problem and this guy what he did was(I saw it), he connected the damaged drive to HIS computer, downloaded something or I don't know and that's it, it works. I lost contact with him so I can't ask him to do it for me. Do any of you know how to fix this? Is there like a firmware drive fix?

What did you hope to accomplish by flashing the firmware? Are you sure you had the correct version? Try downloading it again...your file may be corrupt. Don't overwrite it...delete the file you have & redownload it. Be sure it's the correct one for your drive, then see if you can flash it again

Never tried that. Hopefully that's going to work, I didn't download the firmware, it was a friend he said it was going to burn a lot faster..i told him he was wrong, i like leaving my drives alone...

What he did was probably flashing an earlier firmware that works.

The only thing that makes sense is that you are either installing the wrong firmware code, or you are doing in incorrectly.

Maybe you should contact the drive manufacturer's tech support.

Thanks guys, I'll do that, just keep on posting if anybody has any other ideas. By the way, have any of you seen this fix this problem, even if the drive doesn't even turn on?

Actually I found the document this guy used:

xp got a blue screen and shut down

(I tried to update the firmware but i did not read the readme file and I did this with the DVD room, in the IDE-1 and in slave --- the readme.txt tells to update the firmware with the dvd-room in the IDE-2 as master and with no other devices in the same cable..........(My dvd-room does not even turn on and the bios does not detect it) is there anyway to fix it?

I wish I could get some help, thanks
and sorry about my stupidness

solution is easy, even most of the peoples think there's not.
just download Je3.exe , and unpack GCC5421B106.exe or lower,
and put together je3.exe and ide.hex from .exe file into c disk, but your disk must be fat32 for this work, or you can conect you drive to another, older computer, with win95/98.
then, go into DOS (real, not emulate!), best booting from diskette.
run je3.exe with ede.hex file,
you wil see on the screen a strange model of the drive, but you just continue, this je3.exe is only way, (You are using a right firmware, remember this).
aprox 3 min later your combo drive will flashing and then you can safe restart your computer.
this is the only solutions!
if you have some questions, just ask.

i had a he** of a time doing this, but got it resolved. my combo drive failed the flash as the system shutdown while in the process of flashing. i had to get a floppy drive...i also had to convert a portion of the hardrive to fat32 from NTFS...it and booted with a win98 floppy disk from bootdisk.com. from there i had to look for the je3.exe file. the firmware were from LGs site. Thanks to this information posted, because i was ready to throw the drive out of the windows.

I download MtkWinFlash, but I not found flash file in .bin or .hex format. Where I found this flash file for GCC-4521B? In LG site I found just win programs and not bin/hex.

Tks!

Great

1 - Where can I get htis file, je3.exe.
2 - Must boot from a floppy, ok. what if ir requires more than one floppy?
3 - May I use a dos CD? (with another drive, of course)

----------------------

Hi. I too had a error while updating my LG GCC-4521B drive and have finally got it working thanks to this forum.

I tried out with je3.exe as asked to do by nekakav (Thank you very much!). Herez wot i did

1. I searched for the file "je3.exe" in google and found this link in some page which i cudnt understand (was not in english). Herez the link.

http://www.overclockers.com.au/articles/76277/Je3.exe

I copied the file into "C:\temp"

2. I downloaded the firmware update from the LG site. Herez how i got to the link

http://us.lgservice.com/ --> Product Support --> Device Driver --> Combo Drive --> I selected Windows Xp version GCC-4521B firmware

Though the file has a .exe extenstion its a SFX Zip archive. I unzipped using WinRar (WinZip will also do) by right clicking and selecting "extract to here"

I got 2 files. One a readme file n other a ".exe" file. I cud even extract this ".exe" file using winrar. Therez the hidden ".hex" file which you asked for (ide.hex).

I copied all the files into "C:\temp"

3. I booted using a DOS diskette without CD-ROM support and changed the prompt to "C:\temp". Here i typrd "je3 /?" to find out wot all options i had. Heres wot i got

usage 1 : JE3 [FILE_NAME.HEX]
usage 2 : JE3 [FILE_NAME.HEX] [PORT_NUMBER] /m
[FILE_NAME.HEX] : ***.HEX
[PORT_NUMBER] :
1 - Primary Master
2 - Primary Slave
3 - Secondary Master
4 - Secondary Slave
/m is Boot mode Option

I have my drive connected as secondary slave. So I used je3 like this

je3 ide.hex 4 /m

And after a minutes, to my joy the LED of the drive started twinkling to life!

Think you should use /m if u have booted with a DOS diskette like me.

Hope this post will be of some help to you. Cheers. Bye.

Thanks gautham!!

It was these detailed instructions I wanted before upgrading the firmware. Now I am assured that if anything goes wrong, there's a way to solve the problems.

But I honestly hope I don't need it!!

hello gang. i actually got this to work on an old BTC 24-12-40 cd r/rw drive. here is the page: http://frederic.domens.free.fr/html/flash-en.html
i wouldn't recommend using this because i am no where near the expert concerning such events as are others on this board, but it is an interesting read and all went well for me.
