OK, here's the situation: I have a digital camcorder that I want to hook up to my laptop when I'm on vaction so that I can transfer the movies over to the computer thus freeing up the mini DV tape to be used again. I usually just do this on my desktop since it has the good video card and firewire ports, but I need to have portablity. My laptop (Toshiba Satellite 1415 S173) has only USB ports and the camcorder uses firewire to transfer the movies from the tape. Lower quality movies on the camcorder's memory card and still pics from the card are transferred via USB, but I want to transfer the movies. The laptop has two pc card slots but I've never had a use for them and don't really know anything about pc cards. Is there such a thing as a firewire pc card? If so, can someone recommend one for me. If not, then does anyone have any suggestions about what I might be able to do. Thanks...

you can get some externel FireWire ports that connect to the USB. look at the Advertisment above the Tomato on the right of your screen (the USB hub), you can get hubs like that but with FireWire ports.

I don't know that much about Laptops and their PC card slots, so i can't help you there.

Obviously you don't ignore it by answering this thread (what!?!?!)
Yes there are fire wire cards for your laptop but I don't really want to do it to mine as my laptop is too slow and my HD too small. Therefore I can't really recommend a brand, but I'm sure any one will do fine.

When all else fails beat the $%!* out of it!!!
