Does anyone know if you can disable the onboard graphics on the FIC CW33 motherboard and replace it with a PCI graphics card - the link to the manual on fic.com.tw seems to have died

You must enter in the BIOS and disable it there. To do this press the 'Del' key when booting and search in section 'BIOS Features' or 'Advanced Chipset Setup' or 'Integrated Peripherals' something named 'Onboard Video' and change it to 'Disabled'. If you can't find an option to disable the onboard video check for an onboard video memory one and set it to '0'
