Hello, I have a new usb hard drive connected to my laptop. How do I set it up? I want to run something like fdisk so that I can partition it and format it. I looked in admin tools and disk managment but my usb drive does not show up in the window. Any ideas? Thanks.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

fdisk is a DOS/Windows 95/98/ME utility and should not be used with Windows XP. Use the partition and formating software built into Windows XP

Admin Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management.

Try booting without the drive connected.

After XP is fully booted, plug in the drive.

More power, Mr. Scott!
