Hi everyone,
I enabled Windows fax, set it up to the best of my ability, and the fax says pending. My ethernet connection (w/DSL modem) should (I'm assuming) send faxes, but when I click the fax console's Tools>Configure Fax, the resulting Fax Configuration Wizard popup says "Their are currently no modems installed on your computer...".
Even though I have an internal OEM installed modem, for whatever reason the Fax application doesn't seem to recognize it. So if I click that popup's 'OK' (for Yes I want to install a modem), the Windows Add/Hardware Wizard appears.
I tried letting it locate a modem automatically, but oddly it doesn't locate one, and alternatively my trying to 'select it from a list' my installed modem isn't on the list.
So I tried using one of the list's standard modems, but that uninstalls my OS's OEM installed modem and the fax still says pending.
I know it might be a lot simplier to use a phone line jacked into the laptop, but for all I know it still won't work and I'll still have this issue.

You can't fax over a DSL line unless your provider supports that particular function.
Contact them for info.
LarryToday seems like a good day to chew through the restraints.

I don't think any ISP provides FAX over DSL. Fax is an analogue system, it uses voice frequencies over an analogue modem. A DSL modem wont do it, certainly not with WinFAx that is looking for an analogue modem
You can send fax with your current setup if you subscribe to a fax service. Put FAX over Internet into Google and see what you get.

You just have to set up your fax to work with the internal dialup modem. Make sure you have a line in from the wall jack. I've used it many times, no need to get faxing software. If it's a long distance fax you will be charged accordingly by your phone company...local is free.
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

Thanks everybody,
Guess I'm pretty much forced into adding onto the rat's nest by adding yet another cable to my laptop.
Thanks again for the scoop on this and again for all the suggestions.
