Here's a good one which I cannot figure. I've recently swapped my old external USR voice/fax modem (which worked perfectly) for an internal V90/92 voice fax modem - I needed a caller-id compatible one so I could use Identipop for incoming callers. Anyway, the modem's installed ok but when I try to set up the fax side, using Windows Fax, it says there's no (fax) modem installed so it cannot be configured. I've done a full install of the software & even though it (the fax side) works with the Zoom-supplied 'Communicator' software package (a crappy, showy bit of over-complicated software), it won't work with Windows Fax, which I need because it integrates with my Outlook contacts/address book.
I've been in contact with Zoom & all they say is it must be a problem with the third-party (Microsoft) software. I cannot have both modems installed because that seems to stop the Identipop program working properly. Any thoughts on why this fax modem only works with Zoom's 'own' software?

Hi, You should be able to load as many Modems are you like and select the one you want to use. Check with Control Panel, Modems, Diagnostics. Should tell you something. Modems have a bad habit of not playing fair with Plug and PRAY.
Good luck, Jim

Thanks for reply - unfortunately the modems don't want to get on together - re-attaching the old external modem makes the new modem ignore any incoming calls, even if the external one isn't plugged into the phoneline. I don't want to risk unplugging the serial connector whilst the PC is switched on, which it usually is 24/7. It's just a bit annoying having a new bit of hardware which doesn't want to talk to XP.
