I recently got a new processor and a new video card (nVidia Quadro4 64MB), and updated my bios. Now, whenever I hibernate my computer, the CPU fan turns off, but the power supply and video card fans stay running. The only way they ever turn off is when I shut down. There are no options in the bios setup to change the fan settings. Anyone have any idea what I might try to get them to turn off when it hibernates?

Why do people insist on hibernating desktop systems. Just shut it down when you're not using it. Hibernation was invented as a powersaving feature for laptops.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Why do people insist on always giving advice on matters that people didn't ask about? It seems like every time I ask a specific question here, everyone comments on how rediculous it is that I even asked the question at all. I appreciate help, but if you don't have an answer, please don't give me advice I didn't ask for.

I actually stayed away from this forum because of that kind of stuff. If we need help and we post on a site designed to give help, we expect help, not criticism.

Good for you for speaking up.

What you want to do, (and may mean), is to put the computer in Standby mode, not Hibernate.

Control Panel->Power Options. On the Power Schemes tab, is it set to turn off the monitor also?
This will not really remove power from the video card, but it may help.

Set the System standby time on same tab. No use using Hibernate mode. Although Hibernate will truly shut down the computer, saving the current OS state, this can cause problems on some systems.

And yes, the power supply fan keeps running by design. You may also want to look at the BIOS settings that have to do with Suspend or Standby modes.

A lot of motherboards will not turn off the fans. So there isn’t much you can do about it......you are saving some electricity when you power down.
