I'm not sure about laptops compared to desktops, but 117F is only approx.40C +or-. That is very cool. You may have some other problem if your lap bottom is extremely hot. Besides, if your CPU got too hot it would shut down before it would melt.

now its at 124F. The fan is also loud. it never used to be like this until a month or two ago. The fans are always on also. Should I replace the fans? How should i go about fixing this? It shouldnt get this hot.

Hi...I too have a fan problem (I think) my laptop gets really hot too..even uncomfortable to be on my lap. I also had my graphics/color problem when this started happening. It seems no one knows how to fix this problem. I seriously think it started heating up my graphics card and produced the pinkish hue (like tiny vertical lines on white) for several months...and then disappeared. As long as my computer stays cool..it doesn't come back...anyway..hp has a problem with their laptops as far as I can see...my computer fan works sometimes and others well, when it wants to. there are two fans, one works all the time, and the other I'm not sure when its on...it seems to be a back up or something. Anyway, I know what you mean when the laptop is hot...its not normal. I'd replace the fan...at least that is what I'm going to do...before it burns up my graphics card. Let me know how your problem fared. Also anyone else have these problems? I have an HP Pavilion ze5300, which I call my expensive little piece of cr**.
