how do I check the laptop fan performance? I got this laptop 4 months ago. The fan used to come on strong with a good amount of noise at the start. Now the fan speed and noise are reduced quite suddenly and significantly. I have done nothing hardware or software wise to cause this.

Install the program Speedfan or HWmonitor to check your internal temperatures. If the temperatures are normal then all is fine, if the temperatures are high then you have dust clogging the vents, heat sinks and possibly restricting the fan's movement. Use a can of compressed air to blow out the vents and openable ports and see if that helps.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Thanks "fingers" for the info. I did install "speedfan" and checked the temperature which remained from 29c to 35c. Speedfan could not check fan speeds. I guess the motherboard or whatever simply did not support reporting the data. Also I blew the compressed air through the vents. Lastly I did what everyone shoud do first. I put my ear to the laptop to judge the fan working. It does start up as before and does sound like it is running good and did cut off like before. Who knows, it could be that something that made fan speed up very fast does not "see" the need for it anymore!!!

HWMonitor seems to be a more accurate app than speedfan.
