Hey everybody.
I play the MMORPG City of Heroes, and while i'm playing, one of the fans in my computer will constantly speed up and slow down as i'm playing the game. For example, when I first launch the game and the login screen appears, I hear the fan picking up speed. This speed remains steady as i'm logging in, connecting to server, and actually begin playing. Then, sometimes I will exit one of the game zones and go into another. As I leave the current game zone, the fan speed drops again and remains low as the new zone is loading. Then, when I enter the new zone in the game, the fan speed shoots back up again. Eventually this constant speed change stops after 5 to 10 minutes of game play, and the fan remains at a constant speed despite whatever I decide to do ingame.
Would this be something to worry about? I've heard fan speeds turning on and off or lowering and raising constantly is not a good thing, but I'm not very computer savvy when it comes to hardware.
I have not received any messages from the computer about any hardware conflicts, CPU fan failures, etc. Everything seems normal.
Any advice or information on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

There are fans that will speed up and slow down as the Temp changes. I wouldn't worry about it.Is this a Dell?

Hi Lefty. Thanks for your response.
This is actually an HP Pavilion a730n.
The computer still has all the components it came with. The only thing I bought and put in the computer itself is an ATI Radeon X700 Pro graphics card so I could get rid of the cruddy onboard video.
Just making sure these fan speed changes won't cause any long term misery, especially since the computer will be going out of warranty at the end of the year. :)
Chris
