Hello. I have a computer with a Pentium 1 MMX processor 233 Mhz. It currently uses a heatsink for cooling, but I want to install a fan. I found a "Pentium 12v .08A Heat Sink & Cooling Fan" on Ebay, but am not sure if it will be compatible with my processor and that it will not damage it. Any help? Thanks.

Why do you want to install a fan? Is the processor overheating? I would think the installed heatsink would be enough to keep it cool, as it was for my Pentium 166 MMX.

I'd be wary of this Ebay product as it says "Fits all Penium Processors". One - Pentium is misspelled! Two - does this mean Pentium, Pentium II, Pentium III, and Pentium IV processors? These processors are considerably different in size (something bowan fletcher is alluding to). The picture of the fan itself looks about right, though, but is difficult to tell whether or not it would be fit your heatsink. I would recommend against this purchase.

Look for a Socket 7 heatsink/fan. I think CompUSA still sells these heatsink/fans (possibly look for one that fits the K6-2 processor, as it's the same size)

Good luck.

I've never seen a 233 without a fan on the heatsink. I think the highest I've seen running a heatsink only, was a 133...not to say that some builders didn't do it. In any case, you don't need anything fancy...you should be able to get a decent HSF for well under $10...I wouldn't pay anymore than that. Otherwise, you should be able to screw a fan onto your existing heatsink. If you're not sure what to get, maybe eBay isn't the best route to take. Any local computer shop, Radio Shack, CompUSA, etc should be able to hook you up....

I'm not endorsing this site, but here's some pics & prices just to give you an idea...

I also suggest getting a fan and install it on the current heatsink.
